Pies

Chris' birthday is coming up and, as usual, we had a little family party. I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and he wasn't really sure he wanted a cake. I asked him if he wanted a pie and he wasn't really sure he wanted one of those either. But he did conclude he wanted some sort of birthday treat.
We settled on the idea of hand pies. Strawberry hand pies.
I put them each in a convenient little sleeve and brought them to my mom's in cute, vintage boxes.

Yum.

You belong in a magazine. Those look so delicious and the boxes and wrappers and all of it are just perfect. Yes, you belong in a magazine.

C, your pies are amazing looking. Wish I could've had one. Cherry, for our weekend away???

Here in New Orleans, there is a company called Hubigs that sells such hand pies and they are a time honored tradition. I'm certain yours outdid completely in taste and health factor. Recipe please?

My Dear B,
We will feast on pies and coffee for our weekend! That's the best idea I've heard in forever :)
I'll give you the recipe if you want it, but I found them to be lacking in flavor (the cuteness makes up for a lot of that lack, though). Perhaps your hubby has a tip or two for me? The problem is that you can't fit that much filling into a hand pie while still leaving enough edge to seal it up tight.
