New Assignment

I finally have a new photography class assignment to share with everybody - panoramas! If you have a photo editing software like Gimp or Photoshop, you can play along. And really, if you don't have Gimp, you should. It's free.
This involves setting your camera on manual exposure (so that you have the same exposure on each photograph) and taking a series of photographs, overlapping each other by, maybe, 30 percent or so. Then you use Photoshop or Gimp to stitch them together. I downloaded a script for Gimp that creates panoramic images called Pandora. It was pretty simple and it only required a bit of adjusting to come up with this:



It isn't a perfect image yet, but I took the photos at the zoo this weekend and I just loved all these little budgies in a row of little bird apartments so much that I had to show you right away! Click on the image to see it a little bigger if you want.
I wish I hadn't cut off that one little guy's tail, but...oh well. Live and learn.

Love this. The colors are so fresh and happy. I've heard you mention Gimp before but didn't know it was free. Cool.
