Almost There....

I am certainly glad to have had my Monday today. I worked and worked and had lots of fun making stuff, even if I didn't finish a single thing to my satisfaction.
I started in on a Christmas present and made rolled fondant and cakes.
And I made a huge mess.
I danced around the kitchen while those cakes were baking and stopped here and there to work on that Christmas present. I even laid around on the floor a little bit because, let's face it, I've overdone it again and I'm exhausted. I listened to Iron & Wine, the Avett Brothers and Band of Horses and that helped a lot with the whole laying on the floor thing.
But I just couldn't pull it together to finish anything, so I left the house to check on my brother's progress in his new house. He's done with the painting for the most part and was installing the flooring today and it looked great.
I was craving a Diet Coke and ducked into Chick-fil-a for that, moving quickly because I had lots to do. A few of the guys having lunch there held open doors for me and smiled at me. I was feeling pretty good about that. It's kind of like the attention I discovered while wearing dresses during the No Pants Summer. I figured they must all like my tattoo and sunglasses or something
Then I got to my car and saw a few blobs of cake batter on my shirt. Small, yes, but I now had to give equal consideration to the thought that all of those guys just thought I seemed a bit hapless and clumsy. Which makes more sense, honestly.
But I drove along on my little Mission of Procrastination and looked for a soundtrack. There was no palatable radio and I settled on Gladys Knight. I drove along pretending I was one of those Pips, singing at the top of my lungs.
I had a real scramble this afternoon, pulling together the cake and presents and getting Emma in the shower and, well, ignoring the kids' homework. Hey - they make good grades. It should be alright, I hope.....
We had a nice dinner out with the whole family and Emma got to open her birthday presents at my parents' house amid the laughter and fun of the people who love her most.
It was good.
Then I left my dishwasher to do all those crazy dishes (cakes, biscuits, icing-icing-icing, cupcakes, waffles - my goodness! a terribly starchy weekend!). Um, and by dishwasher? I totally mean my wonderful husband, who patiently follows in my wake, broom and dustpan in hand.
So, after a good night of sleep tonight, I should be ready to get back into the routine of life. No parties are around the corner, no pressing things to make or do, aside from the usual schedule, which is really quite enough thanks.
